60317 Bronze Award Juniors

03/21/2016 to 05/01/2016
San Jose CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Girl Scout Troop 60317 is starting a library in Africa! This project is being organized by the 5th graders from our troop, who are pursuing their Bronze Award. Please help us toward our goal of collecting 1,000 books and $500.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We think school is important, and especially reading. We want to share this with another community. We are working toward our Bronze Award, which is the highest honor that a Junior Girl Scout can earn.

About our African Partners...

The recipients of our library are a primary school called Makoka F.P. School in Malawi. The library will also serve the local community.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are seeking lightly used, paperback books for grades 1-5. These can be fiction or non-fiction. We would also like teacher books, teacher's aides, flashcards, and workbooks. The school has specifically asked for books about science, biology, math, geography and social studies. We cannot accept hardbacks, or books about American History, tech gadgets, religion, or American holidays.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Drop off on the porch at 5509 Copeland Lane, San Jose CA 95124

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

We will be raising funds by holding bake sales and lemonade stands featuring items we make ourselves, but we will also need your help.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Please click on the donation button on this site to donate toward our cost of shipping the books to Africa ($500). Any amount will help! Your donation is tax deductible. BE SURE TO ENTER THE CODE FOR OUR BOOK DRIVE (M8-32) SO THE FUNDS GO TO OUR BOOK DRIVE!
