African Library Project

Bryce and Paige's Ghana Library Book Drive

11/05/2015 to 04/01/2016
Rockville MD

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Bryce and Paige...We are siblings who love to read historical fiction, mysteries, and comic style books! Bryce is 10 and plays soccer, baseball and just started playing the trombone. He wants to be an archaeologist when he grows up. Paige is 8 and also plays soccer, enjoys rock climbing and being a Girl Scout. She wants to be a dolphin trainer and inventor when she grows up.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We want to start a library in Ghana so we can help kids who do not have books have fun. We think reading books is really a good way to spend your time! There is so much to learn and so many types of books, so everyone can find books they enjoy reading. We've been told that reading 30 minutes everyday helps you become really smart too!

About our African Partners...

We currently do not have the name of the school in Ghana we are partnered with, but as soon as we receive this information, we will make sure to update everyone. In Ghana, the overall adult literacy rate is 71%. The rate for women is lower than that of men: 65% vs 78%. We hope that by the time the children in our primary school become adults, these number will be higher. It would be so cool to see proof in this project in years to come.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are building a primary school library, so we are collecting gently used or new books from preschool through 4th grade level. Paperbacks are preferred because they are less expensive to ship, but some hardback will be good too.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

We are collecting 1000 books!! You can deliver books to us at our schools. We will also be happy to pick them up from you, please contact us at

Paige now has a book collection box outside her classroom!
(As we establish other drop off locations, we will let you know)

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

In order to ship these books, we need to fundraise about $500. It takes approximately $250 to ship our books to New Orleans and $250 for the international shipping container to Ghana.

Donations can be collected:

In hand- feel free to give it to any of us!
