Alexia's African Library Project...Books are the words to your soul.

05/22/2015 to 08/01/2015
Rochester NY

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

Hi! My name is Alexia. I live in Hilton NY. I am in 6th grade and go to Northwood Elementary School.

I am doing a project on how kids can change the world. My topic is illiteracy. To make a difference I chose to team up with the African Library Project and start a book drive.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Reading is to the mind as exercise is to the body! I believe there is no such thing as a child who hates to read, there are only children who have not found the right book. Reading has opened my mind and given me an outlet when I needed one. I hope to stop illiteracy and give the opportunity of reading to all.

About our African Partners...

My African partners are in Sierra Leone. I am creating a community library with books from pre-school to 8th grade. I believe at these ages kids and teens minds are growing and developing the most. This is the age group to help give books to!

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Tips for Other Book Drive Organizers

I suggest finding sponsors to raise money. A lot of people do care and will be willing to help. Also for getting books you can ask your teachers or librarians if they have any books the are willing to donate.
