VAHS African Library Project

04/20/2015 to 05/01/2015
Durham NC

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Hello, we are the Voyager Academy service club based out of Durham, North Carolina!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Reading brings so many people together and it can also form great independence in a person. I want to start a library in Malawi to give children that opportunity. I want them to know what it feels like to travel to a different world and time through books. Reading is magical and everyone deserves a piece of that magic.

About our African Partners...

We will me working along side Namale Primary School in Malawi, Africa! We are thrilled to be helping them out!

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Our goal is to collect 1,000 gently used preschool - 8th grade reading level books with a heavy emphasis on preschool - 4th (about 2/3).

If possible, we were also asked to donate
-teacher resource materials
- lesson plans
-games aimed at improving teaching.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

For Voyager friends/family, please send books to your child's homeroom teacher for collection. Or place in designated box in the front office.

For people outside of the Voyager community, you can help us by either shipping books to Voyager for collection (contact anyone below) or you can help by donating through our GoFundMe page!

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Along with the books we have to raise $500 to cover shipping fees for the books to make it to the warehouse in the US and then from there all the way to Malawi! If you would like to make a donation, please e-mail me for instructions!!

Here are some ways that you can help...

SPREAD THE WORD! Tell your family and friends, get as many people as you can involved! Whether you send a small monetary donation or a book or two it will make a world of a difference.
