Zamyra's African Libray Project

06/09/2014 to 12/10/2014
Cortlandt Manor NY

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Hi, my name is Zamyra. I am 11 years old and I go to George Washington Elementary School.
I LOVE to read!!! Books take me to many different places and transport me to different times. Books make me dream and hope. Books make me wiser and smarter.
My mom introduced me to reading when I was in her belly. She used to go to the library and read to me for hours all the time. I won a trophy for reading 100 books when I was a year old. Now that I am 11 years old, I like to read historical fiction, fantasy, realistic fiction, adventure, biographies and nonfiction.
I learned that "One child, One teacher, One book, and One pen can change the world."
- Malala Yousafzai

Hola, mi nombre es Zamyra. Tengo 11 años y voy a la escuela elemental, George Washington.
Yo ADORO leer!!!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I want to help start an African library because Africa is one of the biggest and richest continents in the world, but it is also the poorest in the world.
It is very sad for me to hear about children and adults not be able to hold a book in their hands. Some kids in Africa are not able to go to school because of lack of money. If they have the opportunity to go to school, they do not have books to study with. Having a good education is linked with getting a good job, and having a good job leads to better opportunities. Like my mom always says, "Knowledge is Power".
