Crystal Jackson's Uganda Community Library Project--Education is power!!!

08/13/2019 to 10/23/2019
Bedford VA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Crystal Jackson. I have had the privilege of spending time in Africa on two separate occasions. The experiences I had there and the things I learned made me want to give back to the wonderful people, but I never quite knew how. When I learned about the African Library Project, I was all in! Educational and literacy resources are much needed, and this is something I can do! However, I can not do it without you!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Access to literature is necessary to promote education and literacy. Having visited two different countries in Africa, my heart has longed to see the communities and children have easier access to education resources. One of the schools that I visited had NO books at all. Students simply had to provide themselves with a notebook and pencil and take notes from lectures. Providing the people of Uganda with a library can contribute to strengthening literacy and gaining a better education!

About our African Partners...

The books and donations you give will open a community library in the Ma'di/West Nile Dioscese Secretariat in Uganda! A request came through for about 2,800 students in need of access to books. The primary language in Uganda is English, so each book will be valued and have the power to increase knowledge and open a new world to its readers!
