Lauren Lee and Hyeoyoon (Beatrice) Kim's African Library Project

07/15/2019 to 10/15/2019
Ridgefield NJ

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Hello! Our names are Beatrice Kim and Lauren Lee. We are going to be rising seniors attending Bergen County Academies and Academies@Englewood. Our love for reading has drawn us to form our book drive through the African Library Project. We both know how lucky we are to have the opportunity to attend such prestigious high schools and be able to acquire a good education. Hence, we would like to give back to those who aren't as fortunate as we are.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Books allow readers to escape into different realms and different places in the world. We, as active readers ourselves, want the children in Africa to be given the same opportunity, so that they may also venture every part of their imagination. Moreover, we want the kids to be able to use books as their creative outlets in building their future. We stand by strong beliefs and hopes that there will be a gradual but impactful spread of literacy in all parts of the world.

About our African Partners...

We will be working to donate to the Sierra Leone Community Library. The books shipped to this library will be helping a range of readers from the ages of 4-14. Sierra Leone is located on the coast of western Africa. The country has been trying to rebuild it's community since 2002 due to a civil war that destroyed 1,270 primary schools. Since then, only 7% of schools have libraries, and our personal goal is to help out even by the smallest percentage.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

A community library accepts all books that range between preschool to eighth grade level books. Our goal is to collect 1,000 books to send to the Sierra Leone Community Library.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

If you are able to donate books, please contact any one of us using the contact information listed above. If shipment is a problem, we will pick up the books or pay for the shipping necessary.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

In order to ship the books to the Sierra Leone Community Library, we need to raise a total of 500 dollars to cover the shipping fee. Any amount of donation will be gratefully accepted. To donate, please go to our go fund me page linked below.
