Ariel's Book Drive

05/13/2019 to 06/01/2020

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

Hi! For my bat mitzvah project, I'm creating a library for the African Library Project. The 1,000 books I am collecting will be going to a community in Malawi. I'm also collecting money - $500 to ship these books to Africa. Even if you could donate just five dollars or one book, any help is appreciated.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

When I heard about the African Library project, it really got me thinking. I have over 400 books in my house, and I haven't read many of them in years. I want to share my love of reading with others and to empower them to learn.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

I'm making a community library so I'm looking for: preschool through 8th grade reading level books. Any genre is great, especially nonfiction. For more specific guidelines visit:

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

For fundraising, I'm am going to be doing many things. I'm collecting donations, and instead of presents for my birthday, I'm asking people to donate. I'm also going to be making montages for people, and all proceeds will be added to the fund.

Here are some ways that you can help...

1,000 books $500 fundraising

Malawi has a population of 15 million people, and 74 percent live below the income poverty line of $1.90 per day. If you think about how much books cost, they can't afford that. Please donate!

Thank you to everyone who has or will be going to donate. I really appreciate everyone's help!
