Spencer's Malawi Library Project

01/15/2019 to 06/01/2019
New York NY

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Spencer Ames and I'm a junior at Grace Church High School in New York City. This is my second ALP book drive. The first one was so rewarding and fun that I decided to do another! This time for a Secondary School located in Malawi, a small country in southeastern Africa.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Ever since I was a small child I have had access to many wonderful books. But sadly this is not true for many children especially those living in parts of sub Saharan Africa. The African Library Project is helping to change that. Thanks to them, there's now a way to get books into the hands of children who are so desperate for them.

About our African Partners...

This library is for Kwakupokera School in Malawi. The school is relatively new (2016) and presently has no books. Most of the students come from peasant farms who walk over six miles a day. Malawi, one of the world's least developed countries, is nicknamed "The Warm Heart of Africa" because of the friendliness of its people.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are collecting books for kids at the US 4th to 8th grade reading level. Additionally, textbooks, workbooks, dictionaries, flashcards, posters, or any other educational materials are needed as well.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Our fundraising goal is $500 which will go towards the shipping of the books. If you can't contribute books, making a monetary donation is a huge help! Let me know if you need more details.

Here are some ways that you can help...

If anyone is interested in collecting books, let me know and I can make posters and provide collection bins for your apartment buildings or schools.

If you'd like to make a bookmark (or two or three ...) for the kids at Kwakupokera Secondary School, we will have blanks ones on hand for you to use. Alternatively, you can make your own bookmarks from card stock. We're thrilled to get anything that sends the message that we care.
