Northview High School's African Library Project

10/25/2018 to 06/01/2019
Duluth GA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Hello! My name is Halime Benzer and I am a current senior at Northview High School who was able to start this book drive with the help of my AP English Literature teacher, Mr. Rawlin. My parents immigrated from Turkey to the States when I was just a baby, due to my father’s job. Alongside this reason for moving, both of my parents knew that my sister and I would have a better education in the States and would both be able to have access to greater opportunities. This book drive symbolizes their true purpose for moving and shows how we can all come together to provide the most essential educational resources needed for the children of Malawi: books. Books not only create a desire to learn and awaken our search for our purpose in the world, but also provide a limitless platform in which every individual becomes aware of their own values and roles in the world. My goal is to be able to work with my peers to make this platform come true for the children in Malawi, whom I believe will become future leaders in our world with the help of each book donated. Our goal is to collect at least 1,000 preK - 8th grade reading level books and raise $500 for shipping and related costs.
We are located in Duluth, GA, and will have access to book donations mostly from the communities around the Atlanta area, but any contribution you may have would be very appreciated!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We believe that education and helping one another and understanding our differences are some of the most important ways of uniting together to create a better world for ourselves and the generations to come. The value that education places within an individual creates for them the curiosity that leads them to become future leaders and innovators. We hope that each book will plant the limitless characteristics that education places within a person, and that each page turned will show how empowering one can become with every sentence read. We view each book as a symbol for hope for the the children in Malawi who do not have as much resources to help them increase the quality of their education. Therefore, this book drive represents the essentiality of our actions and our values as individuals. Each book and money donations show our desire to create a better world for individuals and to open our arms for the children who need the role of education in their lives.
