Chesed Library Project

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Hi, I'm Rachel and I love to read. This is why I partnered with the African Library Project, to give books to those who can't afford this privilege. The African Library Project matches people in America with schools in Africa to create a library. They also train teachers to be librarians. The books you donate will enrich the school, as well as the community around it.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I wanted to do this project because I love reading and I think everyone should have that opportunity. This project is important because many people in Africa are illiterate. In the US, 99% of the population can read, while in Sub-Saharan Africa, only 59% are literate. Also, 10 out of the 11 countries with the lowest adult literacy rates are in Africa. About our African Partners...

The Masa Primary School in Botswana is receiving your kind donations.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

The books need to be paperback, non-religious, and appropriate for preschoolers through 4th graders. Also, you may include flashcards, teacher resource material, and posters.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Drop the books at my house by January 15th.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

I need 1,000 books and $550 for shipping.

Here are some ways that you can help...

There are 3 simple ways you can help:

1. Donate to my Gofundme to help pay for the cost of shipping the books to Botswana.

2. Donate gently used books from your own collection to help build the library. The books need to be:
- Paperback
- Non-religious
- Appropriate for preschoolers through 4th graders

3. Purchase recommended books through my Amazon Wishlist or choose one of your own favorites through the bookstore of your choice.

Thank you so much for your kind donations. They will definitely be appreciated. Donate today!
