African Library Project

O's African Library Project Drive!

08/10/2019 to 09/07/19
Kansas City MO

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

We want to start a library in Africa because...

My deep love and passion for reading and libraries! Since I was small, I loved reading and spending hours in my local library or bookstore. Reading opens up new worlds and doors – long before I was able to live and work abroad in Africa I visited through books. I am passionate about doing work to provide opportunities and strengthen African communities. Libraries in communities help reduce illiteracy, shrink poverty, improve health, encourage active citizenship, and empower young minds – not to mention provide simple joys.

About our African Partners...

I've partnered with a community library in rural Lesotho supporting called Boitelo Primary School Library.

Each school or community that has partnered with Africa Library Project has contributed the space, staff, and furniture for a library. A library committee is created and commits to provide supervision, create an engaging space, and measure and maintain the progress of the library. A representative from the library will also attend a best practices summit in rural library sponsored by ALP every other year.

Africa Library Project works in areas where English is taught as a primary language. In Malawi, Africa Library Project partners with institutions like The Wungwero Book Foundation, a small nongovernmental organization, to find library partners – receive the shipping containers – and distribute the books. WBF was started by two professional librarians who happen to be brothers-in-law. Both dreamed of bringing books to the rural areas of Malawi.
