African Library Project

Reuse, Recycle, Read Club

Los Angeles CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

We are the Reuse, Recycle, Read Club - a middle school and high school club whose goal is to provide gently used books to other students who have limited access to books.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We are grateful for our educational opportunities and want to encourage other students to empower themselves through education. We hope these books will give them that opportunity.

About our African Partners...

We have partnered with Kapirinkhonde School in Nythalire, Malawi - a rural area between Nyika National Park and the Zambian border.

Malawi is a landlocked country surrounded by Tanzania, Zambia, and Mozambique. Lake Malawi is home to more than a thousand species of Cichlid fish. If you have ever been to a fish store in LA, you no doubt have seen some of these fish. There are 19 million people living in Malawi and it is a presidential republic. The economy is mainly agricultural and 80% of the population lives in rural areas. Our library will go to a school in the rural areas.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

In addition to fiction books, the school would like books on:
-non-fiction picture books (pictures of the world, African leaders, animals, world cities, etc.)
-history and geography
-expressive arts
-short stories (novels)

Here's how you can contribute your books...

There is a big blue box on the right hand side of the ARC (near Mrs. Gomez's desk) where you can put your books.

Here are some ways that you can help...
