African Library Project

Ben Johannesen's Eagle Scout Project Book Drive

11/01/2017 to 12/1/2017
West Chester PA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Ben Johannesen as his Eagle Scout Project!

Help me establish a library in Kenya!

1000 books is our goal, covering reading ages of Pre-K through 8th Grade.

Both new AND gently used books are welcome.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Reading can open the world, though education and imagination. The fact that my project is to establish a library means that the kids receiving this donation don't currently have this wonderful resource. I hope to give others the same luxury I have of being able to study, learn, and dream through books.

About our African Partners...

Wakondo Primary School in Rusinga Island, Lake Victoria, Kenya, has 590 students enrolled.

They are very much looking forward to having a library!

Please contribute these kinds of books...

I am collecting books in order to create a primary library. This library will also be a resource for the community. Therefore, I am collecting books for PRE-K THROUGH 8TH GRADE. Below are some examples of what I am looking for:

- Children’s picture books
- Children’s fiction and non-fiction
- Early readers
- BIG books
- Teacher's resource books for school libraries
- Children’s dictionaries/picture dictionaries
- Encyclopedias less than 15 years old
- Children’s encyclopedias/picture encyclopedias
