Judge Memorial National Honor Society Book Drive

01/09/2017 to 01/13/2017
Salt Lake City UT

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

The Judge Memorial Branch of the National Honor Society is dedicated to serving our community at home and abroad. We organize the brilliant young minds of Judge Memorial to encourage service, academic integrity, and good moral behavior.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We want to start a library in Africa because we know that education is integral to success in life and ending the poverty cycle across the world. Being from a school where good education is highly valued, we know the kind of doors a good education can open for people, and we look to use our privilege to help people who are less fortunate.

About our African Partners...

Books donated to this drive will be shipped to Swaziland, Africa, and used to create a library at Motjane High School. We will be the only group providing books for this library, so for the sake of the students of this school it is integral that our project succeeds.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Motjane High School is what is known in the US as a secondary school. Books donated should be for a 4th-8th grade reading level. Books do not have to be new, just in a useable condition, so please donate any books you have lying around the house going unused. If you are not sure what would be suitable for this level, please donate anything you think may qualify and we will sort them upon collection.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Books can be brought in anytime to the school during the week of January 9-13, 2017. We will also be holding a Jeans For Jesus day on the Friday of this week, so please be sure to participate in this as well, as these funds will contribute to the shipping costs of the books. Books will not be shipped out until sometime after February 15th, so if the date for donation has already passed and you would still like to donate, please feel free.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

We will be raising funds during a Jeans for Jesus day on Friday, January 13, 2017. Fees upwards of 500 dollars will be required for the shipping of the books, so please participate generously if you are able.

Here are some ways that you can help...

By merely donating unused books or taking advantage of an opportunity to wear jeans on Friday, you can help bring a much needed source of education to people in great need. Your donation will help generations to further themselves by gaining an education.
