Abenroth Family & Friends Community Library in Kenya

08/22/2016 to 11/13/2016
Burley ID

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

Each summer our family completes a service project. This year we decided we wanted to share our love of reading and the wonderful gift of books with a community that doesn't have easy (or any) access to reading material.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Our sister/aunt, Megan, has spent much time living and working in Africa. She first fell in love with the joyous people on her first trip years ago to the country of Kenya. We too have grown to love the good people of that continent through her and others in our family who have been blessed to travel and serve there.

About our African Partners...

We are gathering 1,000 gently used preschool through 8th grade books to send to Kenya to build a community library.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

As you go through your own library, shop at Dollar Tree, DI or some place comparable, try to find books that contain stories/information that would be meaningful to children living in Kenya. Nonfiction books about animals, globally famous individuals, science, history, etc. would be wonderful.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

You can drop off any books to our home, A Child's World in Burley, Idaho, or the CSI Mini-Cassia Center. Or, we would also be happy to swing by your home and gather any books you wanted to donate.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

In addition to the books we are collecting, we need to raise $500 to mail our boxes of books to New Orleans and to contribute towards the international shipping container that will transport our books to Kenya. Money to go towards shipping costs or to purchase books will be happily (and honestly) received.

Here are some ways that you can help...

You can help by donating books or money.
You can gather books, and as our ship date nears, you can help sort and box books with us as well.
