Girl Scout Troop 2832 African Library Book Drive

04/11/2016 to 05/11/2016
Brooklyn NY

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Girl Scout Troop 2832 is based at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We are made up of Daisies, Brownies and Cadettes who care about our global community. The Brownies are leading this year's book drive to support and connect with our fellow students in Africa.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We believe knowledge is power and reading brings joy. We want to share our learning and love of reading with our fellow students and friends in Malawi. We believe that by growing our understanding of the world around us, we can help solve some of the world's most pressing problems.

About our African Partners...

A community library (preK to 8th grade) in Malawi.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

For our community library please donate gently used or new books that are at a U.S. pre-school to 8th grade reading level. Please do not include religious (Easter, Christmas), holiday books (Valentine’s Day, Halloween), cookbooks, or nonfiction books that may be out of date (e.g., old science books).

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Please drop off books at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy, 12 Newel Street. Bins will be located in the front lobby from April 11th - May 11th. We need to collected 1,000 diverse books!

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

We also need to collect about $600 - about $100 for boxes/packaging, approximately $250 to ship the books to the main warehouse in New Orleans and exactly $250 to send for our share of the International shipping container.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Time for Spring Cleaning! Look through your library and see what you can share. Please spread the word to friends and family and have them drop off books or $ donations. We welcome our Greenpoint Community to participate with us and help a library come to life in Malawi.
