African Library Project

Mira's Africa Book Drive

04/01/2017 to 05/29/2017
Los Altos CA

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

I am Mira Wadehra. I am a high school student in Los Altos, California. I have two super cute dogs and I love to bake.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I want to start a library in Africa because this helps kids in Africa become literate, have direct access to books they never had, and eventually help them get a job and make a living. And perhaps these kids could go on to do more for Africa themselves.

About our African Partners...

I am collecting and shipping a 1000 books for NANSATO PRIMARY SCHOOL in Malawi. These will be books for kids from pre-school through 4th grade.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Please donate books for kids from preschool through 4th grade.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

You can send books in a few different ways:
1) You can drop off books to my home any time from April 3rd through May 29th, 2017.
2) I can pick them up from your home if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please email me so I can arrange pick up.
3) You can mail them to my home. Please email me for my address.
4) Finally I will be organizing book drives at home and will let you know dates for those.
I have to collect books by May 29th 2017. So please send me a message TODAY so I can make arrangements. Thank you!

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

I am also raising FUNDS to SHIP these books to start the library in MALAWI. I would really appreciate a donation to help this cause. There are TWO ways to donate:

1) Donate ONLINE here http://africanlibraryproject.org/about-us/donations OR Send a CHECK made out to "AFRICAN LIBRARY PROJECT" for shipping the books from USA to MALAWI in shipping containers. IMPORTANT: Please be sure to note "M9-12" ONLINE and on all donation CHECKS. This is the code my library in Malawi. Any donations over $25 will be sent a receipt for tax deduction.

2) I also NEED $600 dollars for DOMESTIC shipping. You can send me a CHECK or donate ONLINE here at my GoFundMe page, https://www.gofundme.com/miras-african-library-book-drive.

Here are some ways that you can help...

I would love any help from you most of all in the form of books from your family, friends or others who may be willing to send books for this cause.
Any donations to help ship these books to domestically, and then to Malawi would be most appreciated too.
