Kids Read Book Drive for Malawi (M8-33)

03/25/2016 to 05/31/2016
Antioch CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Aliya, I am 7 years old and in 2nd grade. I live with my parents and little brother Miles who is 4 years old. I love to read all kinds of books and my favorite right now is the "Sugar Plum Ballerinas" series by Whoopi Goldberg. My Mom and I read a chapter every night before bed.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I want to start a library because I love to read and want to help other children in the world learn to read too. I hope this will also encourage my friends and cousins to start their own book drives so we can help even more kids get books.

About our African Partners...

The books I collect will be sent to Mangochi CCAP Primary in Malawi. This library will serve 500 students from Preschool through 4th grade reading levels. The library will be used by children and teachers in this community.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

My goal is to collect 1000 gently used or new books for Preschool through 4th grade reading levels. All types of books are welcome. Books related to geography, science, history, mathematics, and world books are needed in particular. Mangochi CCAP Primary also needs teacher resource materials such as books, lesson plans, posters and games aimed at improving teaching.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

I have several collection boxes in San Francisco, Antioch, and Brentwood California (San Francisco Bay Area). Please contact me if you have books you'd like to donate.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

I also need to raise $500 to ship books and teaching materials. Contributions can be made using PayPal to my mom at 510-913-6574 or contact me to make other arrangements.

Here are some ways that you can help...

1) Donate books or teaching materials
2) Donate money to ship books
3) Help spread the word about my book drive
4) Start you own book drive!
