We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

We are a small Girl Scout Troop looking to make a big difference! In partnership with our school, friends and family we know we can start a library and make a difference in the lives of kids at the Chiguma Primary School! Please help us!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We have been learning how to use our individual talents to make a difference in communities. We are passionate about books and when we heard that we could start an entire library for kids that needed one we got very excited. We researched the African Library Project and learned how lucky we are to have all the school resources we do. We hope we can share our resources and excitement to start a library for the families at the Chiguma Primary School.

About our African Partners...

Our books will travel to the Thyolo District in Malawi, Africa to a community that needs a new library for its primary school. The headmaster of the school and the parents there have committed to building the shelves needed for the books, promise to care for the books and help the students there utilize the library. All they need is our help to collect and ship them!

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We need books for preschool through 4th grade readers. Also, the headmaster of Chiguma Primary School asked us to send books on English grammar, science, history and world books.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Please contact your girl scout to collect any donations that you have or send them with your child to school to place in the collection bin there. We are trying to finish collecting all books by April 15, 2016.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

We would also appreciate donations to help cover the cost of shipping the books (approximately $500). If you can help, please make a check payable to Girl Scout Troop 44085 and give it to your Girl Scout or mail it attn: Megan Toney 2647 Superior Drive NW Suite 200 Rochester, MN 55901 We are also partnering with Kohls associates on a Kohls Cares project in April. We will use money from this grant to help pay for shipping costs.

Here are some ways that you can help...
