African Library Project

Eric Gibson's Troop 396 Book Drive

02/01/2016 to 04/12/2016
Annapolis MD

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

I am a member of Boy Scout Troop 396 in Annapolis, Maryland. For my Eagle Scout Project, I am collecting books to create a library in Ghana.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I feel that education is the most important "natural resource" that a country can use to rise out of poverty. Ghana is a multi-cultural African country of 27 million people, but has a commitment to education. While still underdeveloped, it has a goal to become the first "developed" African country during the decade of the 2020's.

About our African Partners...

I am working with the Goviefe Agodome School in Ghana. They need books for a library for their preschool and elementary school.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are looking to collect gently used books from the preschool level up to middle school.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Contact me by this email: ergibson@students.gilman.edu, to arrange a pickup. You can also drop off books at our Boy Scout Troop Meeting Place at Trinity United Methodist Church: 1300 West St, Annapolis, MD 21401. The time and date are as follows: Mondays from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.

HOWEVER, PLEASE CONTACT ME PRIOR TO DELIVERING THE BOOKS TO CONFIRM THE MEETING TIME.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Money is needed for the shipping of the books. The preferred method is the link on this website to provide a tax-deductible donation to my project. http://africanlibraryproject.org/about-us/donations
You will need to add my book drive code, which is G6-41.
Also, checks made payable to Troop 396 would also be accepted.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Look through your home and check out your bookshelves, closets, etc. Also, ask your local school if they have any books that they are discarding, which they do frequently.
