African Library Project

Miletic's Malawi Library Book Drive

03/28/2016 to 05/13/2016
Forest Hills NY

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Natalie Miletic - I am an English teacher with a passion for books. I believe that books are powerful and transformational and that everyone should have access to them.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We believe in books! We believe in the power of reading! We believe that everyone should have access to knowledge and the ability to think critically. Education is key for the development of the individual mind and the collective community. To promote the power of literacy and the importance of education is key to the empowerment of all individuals. I hope you can help us out!

About our African Partners...

Kampanje Day Community Secondary School Library is in Malawi. The village of Teyateyaneng has gathered their labor and materials and has committed to help build the library at the St. Agnes School. This new library will be serving 350 students from this region. It's up to up to help stock the shelves of this new library!

Please contribute these kinds of books...

What we are looking for are pre-school to 8th grade reading level books.  The administrators of the new library are also specifically asking for a focus on math, science and agricultural texts. The list they provided includes the following:

* Baby board books,
* Paperback easy readers
* Paperback children’s picture books
* Paperback juvenile literature/Chapter books
* K-8 textbooks (English, math, geography & science)
* Encyclopedias & atlases (post 1990)
* Paperback dictionaries

Here's how you can contribute your books...

You can drop off the books at Forest Hills High School drop off sites, which include:
English Office, Room 338
Guidance Office, Room 105
COSA, Room 158

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

And we'd really appreciate donations! If you would like to give a monetary donation, you can see Ms. Miletic or Ms. Troy in Room 341. Cash and checks are accepted.
