Literary Love African Library Project

03/01/2016 to 05/21/2016
Elk Grove CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Kaitlyn Foster and I am a 17 year old girl with a passion for reading and international affairs! Now, as I come to the end of my senior year, I have decided that I want to create a lasting memory in the community and finish my year with something as incredible as starting a library in Africa! I dream of empowering and inspiring these children to develop a love for reading just as I have!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Reading has been a magical outlet for me since I was in elementary school, and so I want all children to also enjoy the wonder and experience of reading. Books have a way of connecting others and empowering young minds to new and interesting worlds and ideas!

About our African Partners...

Our African Library partner in Malawi is Mchere Teachers Development Center. The library will be open to primary school students, teachers, and the villagers of the community. They are expecting to serve about 1000 students!

Please contribute these kinds of books...

This primary/ JHS library is asking for preschool- 6th grade reading level books. If possible, please donate:
- teacher resource materials (books, lesson plans, posters, and games aimed at improving teaching)
- baby board books
- paperback easy readers
- paperback children's picture books
- paperback juvenile literature/chapter books
- K-8 texts (english, math, geography, science)
- atlases and encyclopedias (less than 15 yrs old)
- paperback dictionaries
- educational games
- puzzles

Here's how you can contribute your books...

If you would like to donate, please email me at kaitlynnicole12@yahoo.com with the subject line as African Library Project. Once you get in contact with me, I will give you the information that you need to either ship the books or, if you live in my area, we can arrange a way for the books to get picked up or dropped off! Thank you so much for all your support!

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

If you would like to donate money instead of books, again, please email me at kaitlynnicole12@yahoo.com and we can discuss a way for cash or checks to be sent. Thank you so much!

Here are some ways that you can help...

You can help by spreading the word about my African Library, and if you would like to help package the books the last week of May, please let me know so we can have a book packing party!

- Also, anyone who donates, I would love if you took a picture of you with your books or write a note that I can include with the shipment.
- If you aren't able to donate books, bookmarks, notes, maps, and posters are greatly appreciated!
