Atkins High School Key Club African Library Project

01/23/2016 to 04/01/2016
Winston-Salem NC

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

Atkins Key Club is a service organization that typically works with local community projects, and we are excited to do our first international project!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Speaking for myself, I have taken for granted the importance of reading and literature in our lives. It allows us to experience a whole new world, travel to places without ever having left our chair, and most importantly, teach us anything we could ever want to know. I want everyone to be able to have that opportunity no matter where they live.

About our African Partners...

Doxa Generations Academy is a Pre-school through Junior High School located in the coastal town of Achimota-Accra, Ghana. They have around 460 students, but the library will also be open to members of the community. They are committed to caring for this library and have dedicated a librarian to the upkeep of the building and books.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are looking for new or gently used Pre-school through 6th grade books. Any teaching aids and learning resources that fit the age group are also more than welcome.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

If you have any books you would like to donate, please bring or send them to the school. 3605 Old Greensboro Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27101
We will be accepting them now through April 1st, 2016.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

We plan to conduct a fundraiser within the school to put together "school/exam survival guides" which will be packs filled with all the necessary study essentials. If you would like to purchase one, they are $10 and will include highlighters, index cards, pencils, erasers, gum, and more!
If you would like to send checks to support the book drive, they can be sent to Atkins High School and in the memo line put: Key Club Book Drive. If you would like to send money electronically, we have set up an account as well.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Please consider donating books or money to the drive. Books and money can be sent to the school's address, or money can be donated online through http://osp.osmsinc.com/WSFCS/BVModules/ProductTemplates/BVC%202004%20Layout/Product.aspx?productid=AM001-246.
