John Matysik's Books & Smiles For Abodom
The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)
This book drive is organized by ...
Hello, My name is John Matysik, and I am a Junior at Archbishop Wood High School. I wanted to do something positive to help others and give educational opportunities to those less fortunate. I researched and discovered the African Library Project, which partnered me with a school in Africa in need of books and resources to build a library. I am excited to be a Book Drive Project Leader to help fulfill their dream by collecting book donations. I imagine the smiles on the children's faces when they open a donated book that inspires them to read and receive the gift of education.

We want to start a library in Africa because...
I remember as a child how much I enjoyed reading books. I treasure that time, and I am most grateful to my mom for reading with me for so many years. I know how safe and secure I felt and how it inspired me to want to read and discover the world through books. I cannot imagine a young child living in a world with limited access to learning resources and entertainment. I want to make an impact in the world that will last generations. Hopefully, this library project inspires the children to want to be educated, allowing them an opportunity to become leaders that affect positive change in their community.
About our African Partners...
I am honored to be partnered with Abodom Primary School in Bekwai, Ghana, in Africa. They currently have no library. It is their students' biggest dream to have books to read. The new room is being prepared, but now they need books to fulfill their dream of turning the room into a real library.
Please contribute these kinds of books...
I am interested in books primarily for Preschool to Grade 6 reading level. The children also love activity and puzzle books. Small games such as checkers, card games, etc. are acceptable.
Here's how you can contribute your books...
I am happy to come pick up books or they can be dropped off in the donation box at my front door. Please leave a note so I know who provided the books. Please contact me at email@example.com to arrange a pick up.
Please also leave a note so I know who provided the books.
We need to raise funds for shipping the books...
I am fundraising to cover shipping my collection of at least 1000 books (20-30) boxes to the African Library Project main facility in New Orleans. The books will be loaded into a shipping container with other book drives that are also furnishing books for African schools. I will need to pay International shipping fees. If you would like to help me with my fundraising efforts, donations can be mailed to my home or through my GOFUND me page.https://www.gofundme.com/AbodomBookDrive Every donation no matter the amount is much appreciated, even just including a dollar or two with your donated books will go a long way.
Here are some ways that you can help...
If you have children's books from Preschool to Grade 6 and would like to give the books a new home where they will continue bringing joy to children, please donate them to John Matysik's Books and Smiles African Library Project. Don't have books to donate but would like to be a part of my drive? I am gratefully accepting donations to help cover the cost of shipping the 1000 + books by visiting my GOFUND me page or mailing a donation.
Also, If you have friends with young children or grandchildren, help spread the word and forward them my contact information. If you own your own business and have room for my Books & Smiles donation box, I would also be grateful to have the additional drop off points.
Thank you for taking an interest in reading my page :)
