The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

The C. T. Eddins Elementary Student Council is dedicated to making the lives of others better. The kids this year are working hard to help those in need, make a difference in the community, and change the world for better! Our kids work hard every day in and out of the classroom. They are determined young kids who have strong values, exceptional work ethics, and have fun together. The Student Council consists of 5 officers and 14 representatives from grades 3rd-5th. They meet every Friday morning at 7:15 to discuss new ideas, celebrate achievements, and talk, talk, talk! They are a great group of leaders on our campus ready to take on the world.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

One of our 5th grade representatives, Mac Tighe, approached the Student Council with an idea to start a library for children in Africa. As soon as the kids heard about it, they jumped right on board! They are caring individuals who want to make a difference. The kids believe all children have a right to education, and they hope to make this dream a reality. Reading is a powerful tool and a lifelong necessity. The kids feel it is important to help start a library in Ghana for Kortwia MA Primary School. They are passionate about this quest and determined to help these children by collecting over 1000 preschool - 2nd grade level books.

About our African Partners...

All books that the Student Council collects will be shipped to Ghana, in Africa. We will be providing a library for Kortwia MA Primary. We are asking for over 1000 preschool to 2nd grade books to help start a library for this school in Africa.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are trying to collect over 1000 preschool - 2nd grade leveled books. Please do not send any holiday books as the children in Africa hold different beliefs and would have a hard time understanding the material. Please see below:
-preschool to 2nd grade leveled books (no holiday books)
-ABCs, 1,2,3s, etc.
-Small puzzles, sorting games, matching numbers and/or letters
-Teacher resources (vocabulary, lesson plans, games, etc.)

Here's how you can contribute your books...

We are call our book drive, "For the LOVE of BOOKS". The Student Council kids will be collecting books and/or money donations from Feb. 1st - Feb. 12th in front of the big clock, starting at 7:15. You can donate your books and/or money here each day.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

For the LOVE of BOOKS will run from Feb. 1st to Feb. 12th. You can send books and/or cash to school with your child to donate. Student Council kids will be in front of the clock each morning at 7:15. Please email the SC sponsor, Ms. Stein, at mstein@mckinneyisd.net for questions.

Here are some ways that you can help...
