African Library Project

Turiel/Hinds African Library Book Drive

11/01/2015 to 03/31/2016
Durango CO

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

We are an extended family consisting of grandparents, grandchildren and their parents. We live in Durango, CO and Berkeley, CA. We are working together as one family and with so many other generous people in Durango. In December we plan to extend our book collection efforts to Berkeley.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We are inspired to do this project because we love reading and want to provide an opportunity for children to become more literate who would otherwise lack such a chance.. Ultimately, we think that education is a key to a more peaceful world. Educated boys and girls are more likely to integrate into their native society and feel connected rather than isolated from the local economy.

About our African Partners...

The books we collect will go to Ghana, one of the English speaking countries in Africa. The library will house pre K through fourth grade books.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are seeking lightly used books that are at a pre K through fourth grade level

Here's how you can contribute your books...

If you have books and live in Durango, CO area you can email Rachel Turiel at sanjuandrive@frontier.net. If you are in Berkeley, CA area please email Isaac Turiel at ituriel65@gmail.com
