Sacred Grove's Library Project

11/15/2015 to 04/10/2016
Concord NC

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

Sacred Grove School of Excellence is the homeschool name of our simple family. Myself, and my children, six and one, decided we wanted to do something to help others. Upon the unexpected death of my husband in April this seemed like an excellent way to honor both his love of books and his memory.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Needless to say the holidays are gonna be tough around here and April is coming way too quick, so I wanted to find a positive project that can both help others (and my kids) and also be done in the memory of my husband. I think it will give me something to focus on, and goodness knows I need that. I had heard of this a few years ago, but never could gather much help or interest from others (though I still have the box of books Jessica donated). So, I want to try this again.

For those of you who don't know what the African Library Project is... It is an organization that with help from others build libraries for various African countries. It depends on the regions needs as to rather it will be a community/primary/secondary library and thus the kind of books they will require.

I have registered and am waiting to speak to an organizer to see what age books our Library will need. We must collect at least 1000 books that fit their requirements as well as $500 to ship them to Africa. I plan on this being Chandler's big service project for the year as well.

So if anyone would like to help by donating gently used books or toward the cost of shipment please let me know.

I have requested a primary ages library because I know most of my friends have children and have extra books laying around in that age range but I'm waiting to hear from them personally to know exactly what I need. Thank you all for any support you have to offer, or any suggestions.

About our African Partners...
