African Library Project

Swaziland Library Book Drive

10/19/2015 to 03/15/2016
Statesville NC

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

We, the South Iredell High School book club, are trying to raise 1,000 books and $500 dollars to sent to a country in Africa in order for a library to be built for children at a secondary school.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We want to start a library in Africa because we believe that all children should have the ability to read as well as be able to enjoy reading something of their choosing, and we hope that by having their own library it will open up their minds to new imaginations.

About our African Partners...

The country that is receiving these books is Swaziland, Africa. One of our co-presidents (of the Book Club) travelled to South Africa this past summer, and Swaziland is a country just inside of South Africa. When I went to South Africa, I found that many families don't have electricity or clean drinking water, and most have to walk miles each way several times a day for their contaminated water. Their yards are dirt. I feel that by establishing a library in Swaziland, we could help to educate students and allow for them to have a better life.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are collecting books for a secondary school library, meaning that the children who will be reading these books are between a 4th to 8th grade reading level.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

There will be boxes for book donations in G-Building Lobby, the Student Center, Main office and Library, for those who go to South Iredell. If you can not donate books, but would like to help with the book drive, please donate money.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

If you would like to donate money, you can give it to Mrs. Van Vliet in the library, or, if you would like to give the money to one of the co-presidents, please email them to their personal email accounts listed at the bottom of the web page.

We would like to thank those who have already donated books to us, they have been a great help. We would like to personally thank Mrs. Milliken from Lake Shore Middle School and Mrs. Scott at Harmony elementary for the boxes of books they sent us within the last couple of weeks. They have helped us already meet out November goal and we are currently almost half way through our December goal.
