Siya's Books For Africa

08/15/2015 to 12/05/2015
Edison NJ

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

Hi there! My name is Siya. I'm an eighth grader from New Jersey. I love to read, and when I heard about the opportunity to start a library for the kids in Africa, I was more than happy to get
involved!

I'm excited to be collecting books for this wonderful cause. I hope to encourage a life-long love of learning and reading for the children in Africa who don't have enough access to literature.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I believe that reading benefits people, especially youngsters. No matter where you live or who you are, everyone should be able to enjoy a good book, or learn something new! Reading allows people to explore new topics, imagine the impossible, and inspire great ideas.

Growing up, I always read a lot, and I still do. I'd like to help kids in Africa experience the same joy of discovery, learning, and entertainment through reading the books in their very own library.

As Dr. Seuss once said, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go!"

About our African Partners...

My library will be located at a primary school in Botswana, Africa. I will be collecting books of preschool to fourth grade reading levels.

Botswana has one of the highest literacy rates in Africa, and we would like to further educate it's kids by encouraging them to read. Learn more at: http://www.slideshare.net/africanlibraryproject/botswana2015

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Before the library can be created, I will need to collect at least 1,000 books of the appropriate reading level- preschool through fourth grade. Other educational materials, such as board games, puzzles, and workbooks of any sort will also be accepted as a bonus!

Here's how you can contribute your books...

1. Donate old/used books.
2. Donate money.
3. Buy and donate new books.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

If you would like to donate money to ship the books to our library in Africa, email
booksforafrica.siya@gmail.com.
