Brattleboro VT

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

Hi! My name is Sarah Young, and I am a ninth grade student at The Putney School, a boarding/day school in Putney, Vermont. Currently in one of my classes, we are designing a social activism project, and I decided that what I wanted to do was create a book drive.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I stumbled upon the African LIbrary Project, and as someone who is fond of reading, I knew that creating a book drive was something I wanted to do. So many of my childhood memories are based around books and spending long days reading, but I realize that not everyone has had that luxury. I want everyone to be able to experience what I did when I was younger, and the African Library Project makes that possible. Even though this is a school project, I truly believe in the cause, and want to support it. I only have about 1 month to complete my book drive, but with your help, I think that we can build a library.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Please contribute gently used books from a pre-school to 8th grade reading level. Educational games, and puzzles are appreciated as well.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

I have put boxes at The Grammar School in Putney, Vermont. The Putney Co-op in Putney, Vermont, and at Hilltop Montessori School in Brattleboro, Vermont.
If you do not live in the area, but would like to donate books, please ship them to Sarah Young at this Address:
P.O Box 32
Williamsville, Vt
05362
More details on where to donate books will be posted soon!

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

In order to raise the $500 needed for shipping, and other costs, I have set up a GoFundMe campaign. To donate to this campaign please click on this link: http://www.gofundme.com/tstspc even a small donation is greatly appreciated!

Here are some ways that you can help...

Any support that you give is appreciated. If you really want to help, bring your books to a book box, and/or donate to my GoFundMe campaign. If you can't do either of these things, but still want to help, just spread the word and raise awareness!!
Thank you so much!
