Serena and Faith's African Library Project

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

Hi everyone! Our names are Faith Redmond and Serena Mathew. We are seniors at Clarkstown South High School in Rockland County, New York. For our National Honor Society independent service project, we have decided to run a book drive to help start a community library based at a secondary school in Malawi. Please contact us with any questions, we would appreciate any help we can get! Our goal is 1,000 books and $500 for shipping. Thanks!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the gift of reading, something many of us here in the United States take for granted. By starting a library in Malawi, we hope that the many children there will be able to learn, grow, and have a brighter future because of it.

About our African Partners...

Our partner is Providence Girls Secondary School in Malawi. We are the only book drive matched with this school and they are thrilled that we're helping them.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are starting a community library at a secondary school which means we are collecting books that range from pre-school reading level, to eighth grade reading level.
These books can include:
-novels
-storybooks
-picture books
-teacher resource materials (i.e. geography books, math books, ELA/reading books
etc.)

The focus should be on the fourth to eighth grade reading levels.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Drop Off Sites:
Risen King Alliance Church (190 New Hempstead Rd, New City, NY 10956)
St. Francis of Assisi (128 Parrott Rd, West Nyack, NY 10994)

If distance is a problem, books can be shipped or sent directly to us if ordered online (email us for more information).

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Shipping is expensive, we need $500 to ship these books to Malawi. Any amount helps! You can help us by donating at:
