We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

We are part of Sonoma County's 4-H program. 4-H is a youth organization with over 6.5 million members. There are lots of different reasons people do 4-H, but helping the community is a large part of what 4-H is about.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We wanted to help start a library because reading is such an important part of learning. In 4-H we pick projects to learn new skills and build on them. Books can be a big part of this. We are excited to help give books to kids to learn new things too.

About our African Partners...

We will learn the name of the school soon but do know the library is for preschoolers to 8th graders in Malawi.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

For this library, we'll be collecting 1,000 preschool - 8th grade reading level books with a heavy emphasis on preschool to 4th grade books (about 2/3rds).

Here's how you can contribute your books...

You can drop off books at our April and May General Meetings.
The meetings are the second Wednesday of the month from 7 to 8pm at Gravenstein Elementary. You can also give your books to anyone in Independence 4-H.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

We are going to have a bake sale on April 25th at the Quarryhill Botanical Garden's Earth Day Celebration from 11 to 3pm. All the money raised from the bake sale will go to the shipping of our library books. You can even drop off books that day to our bake sale table

Here are some ways that you can help...

Please come to our bake sale on April 25th! Also, please spread the world to your friends and family, so many people have old books at their house they no longer use and this will put them to a great use!
