African Library Project

Pooja's Library for Malawi

02/09/2015 to 06/01/2015
San Jose CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Pooja Muvva, and I am in Seventh grade. I attend Miller Middle School in San Jose, California. I am very passionate and dedicated about playing tennis as I play competitively. I love reading mystery, historical fiction, realistic fiction, and suspenseful books in my free time.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I want to start a library in Africa for many reasons. In sixth grade we learned about the poverty in Africa, and how many children are treated horribly. I realized how fortunate I am to have clothes, education, food, a family and many more things. This really touched me, and I wanted to do my part to help make the world a better place. Since I strongly believe that education is the key to a better world, I thought the African Library Project was a great way to start! I am very passionate, and excited about this project.

About our African Partners...

Nankhufi Primary School in Malawi is my partner in Africa. I am the only one working with this school, so I really hope I can help construct a great library for them.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Please contribute gently used books from preschool to eighth grade reading level. We have already finished collecting the minimum requirement of books(1000). But you can still donate.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

You can drop off your contributions or mail them to 7250 Clarendon St., San Jose, California 95129. Thanks!

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

We need at least $500 to cover the shipping costs. (First to New Orleans, then to Malawi) If we receive more than $500, then we will use the money to buy more books for the library. Please mail the money, or drop it off at 7250 Clarendon St. San Jose, California.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Please donate whatever you can. Any amount is kindly accepted. Please spread the message to family and friends to donate so that a library can be built in Malawi, Africa to help the students at Nankhufi Primary School. THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP EVERYONE!!!
