VCDECA African Library Project
Changing Lives in Ghana, Book By Book!

01/07/2015 to 04/15/2015
San Jose CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Valley Christian DECA Chapter (VCDECA) is a business club comprising a team of 30+ high school students, who are very passionate about giving back to the community.

The book drive is led by Andrea Daniel, Founder and President of VCDECA.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

"Books Change Lives. Books were instrumental in bringing my family to America, the land of opportunity. My parents once told me the story of how they had to save every penny they could, walk miles to a public library, rent books, and had to return them within a week or pay a hefty penalty. Over time, they found a sponsor family in the United States that would ship them used books once a year. My parents waited eagerly, devoured the books within weeks, and hungered for more. The English literacy that they developed by reading these borrowed books, changed the course of their future. I wouldn't be here in America if it weren't for the doors that books opened for my parents.

We the students of VCDECA, come from diverse backgrounds but there is one common thread in each of our stories. Most of our parents did not have easy access to books and yet, they owe their success in life to books.

We want to start a library in Africa to improve English literacy and open the doors of opportunity to many children. With our book drive we hope to raise awareness in our local community that the gift of books can help redeem a child out of poverty and set a course for a brighter future."

~Andrea Daniel.
