The Kira Orion African Library Project

11/15/2014 to 03/31/2015
Pasadena CA

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

Hi, I'm Kira and I just turned one!. My Mama is starting this book drive to help celebrate my first year of life! She has always loved reading and from the looks of it, she says, so will I.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We believe in the accessibility of education for everyone. Simply put, we love learning and we love to read! We are super blessed to live in a house full of books and we would love to share the feeling of joy and freedom that reading books bring to us.

About our African Partners...

We've been partnered with the Bomaa Methodist Primary School in Ghana. The school is located in the outskirts of Bomaa and serves a farming community in southeastern Ghana. Our library is being created from a re-purposed school storage room and will serve about 300 readers!

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are making a Primary School Library: Please donate books at the U.S. pre-school to 4th grade reading level. Your gently used children's books are most welcome. Math, science, social studies, history, encyclopedias and teacher resource books have been requested along with picture and story books. Educational games and puzzles are also welcome.

If you don't have any pre-loved books to share and want to send books, here is a great Amazon wishlist of special books children in Africa can relate to: http://amzn.com/sy/R12XDOW7MIO502

And here is Africa Access's list of the Children's Africana Book Awards:

Here's how you can contribute your books...

We will pick up book donations of any size in the greater Pasadena/Eastern Los Angeles area and will keep you updated of book drop-off sites as we add them.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

You are welcome to make a paypal donation to offset our shipping costs to sandramcrouch@yahoo.com. For further information on monetary and in-kind donations please connect with Sandra using the contact information below.

Here are some ways that you can help...

The Kira Orion Project would love to receive your books and donations to offset our costs to ship our library. We also welcome your assistance in collecting books and shipping supplies, organizing a fundraising event or joining us for our book packing party in the spring!
