Educating Africa - One Book at a Time

12/08/2014 to 02/06/2015
Morton Grove IL

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

We are the 5th grade Girl Scout Troop at Park View School. The eight of us girls have many common interests, but are unified by one -- to make the world a better place by thinking globally and acting locally.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We love to read books and when we heard that the kids in Swaziland didn't have books at all, we wanted to spread our love. So we are organizing this book drive.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Our goal is to collect 1000 books for the Qedusizi Primary School (kwe-du-see-zee) in Swaziland. That's books that are at a US pre-school to 4th grade reading level. We need your help to educate Africa - one book at a time!

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Look for the red orange--yellow--black striped collection boxes at some of our local establishments which we will add as we recruit these partners.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

A portion of our Girl Scout cookie money will be used for shipping the books, and donations are definitely welcome. You can contact - books4swaziland@gmail.com - and we'll forward directions on how to give.

Here are some ways that you can help...

We need YOUR help! Please donate pre-school to 4th grade reading level books of gently used (or even new) condition. Or you can donate money to help us ship the books to our African partner in Swaziland. If you'd like to have a collection bin at your establishment, please contact us at books4swaziland@gmail.com.
