African Library Project

Bar Mitzvah, Books, and the Children of Lesotho, Africa

07/10/2014 to 12/10/2014
Newcastle WA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Hi, my name is Nathan Jackson and I am collecting books for my Bar Mitzvah project: "Bar Mitzvah, Books and the Children of Lesotho, Africa." I am from Washington state and I have a great passion for reading. I have read great classics like Lord of the Rings and Tom Sawyer as well as new Young Adult novels like The Hunger Games and Divergent. I am part of a family of four, have a dog named, Padme, and am a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I would like to start a library in Lesotho for two reasons: First, I was asked to choose a Bar Mitzvah project and the first thing that came to mind was centered around reading - something I've always loved to do. Second, I want others to experience the joy of reading, and the positive ways it can affect your life.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

If you choose to donate to my book drive, please donate books that are U.S. pre-school to 8th grade reading level, as I am donating to the Amohelang Combined Government School.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

If you are local, feel free to contact me via email (nikkiwiebe@msn.com) to arrange a drop-off/pickup location that is closest to you (I will have collection bins set up at various places to receive books). You can also send paperback books care of Hal Jackson to 12819 SE 38th St. # 106 Bellevue, WA 98006

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

I also need to ship all these wonderful books! If you'd like to make a financial donation to help with shipping costs, please contact me via email (nikkiwiebe@msn.com) or send checks payable to Nathan Jackson with ALP in the Memo line to 12819 SE 38th St. # 106 Bellevue, WA 98006
