We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

This book drive is being organized by Tamerat, Amday, and Kwesi. We are college students and recent graduates who are pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. Kwesi and Amday are first generation Americans of Ghanaian and Ethiopian descent, respectively. Tamerat was born in Ethiopia and came to the states for school. We all share a common love for Africa and we recognize that we have been put in a position where we can help.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We want to start a library in Africa in order to increase the literacy rate in this part of the world and to equip under-served children with the tools needed to become leaders for positive change in their community.

About our African Partners...

Our donated books will help build a Community Primary School library in South Africa. The partner school is MC Weiler Primary School.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Please contribute books for a primary school library or a community library. Books at U.S. pre-school to 8th grade reading level are being accepted. Thank you.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

There are a couple ways to donate your books:
Option 1: Pick up. If you call one of us we can schedule a time to pick up the books from you.
Option 2: Central drop off location. In the Commons building (labeled box next to the front desk) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
1000 Hilltop Cr. Baltimore, MD 21250. Feel free to call if you have any questions or get lost.
Option 3. Come to FestAfrica from August 9th-10th and visit our booth! We would be happy to meet you. http://www.festafricausa.com/about/

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

There are a couple different ways we are raising funds for shipping the books:
1. Visit our GoFundMe website for a secure donation:
http://www.gofundme.com/EmpowerAfrica
2. Again, you can come visit our booth and get to know us at FestAfrica which is going on during the weekend of August 9th-10th! More info on the event: http://www.festafricausa.com/about/

Here are some ways that you can help...

We appreciate all kinds of help toward reaching our goal of 1,000 books and $500 dollars. Whether you are donating books, money, prayers, or simply sharing the link to our page; every bit counts and we should be very grateful to be in this position to help educate less fortunate children in Africa.
