Books for a Better Future

05/26/2014 to 08/25/2014
Antioch CA

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Isis, and I'm a nurse in Antioch, California. Helping people has always been my passion. I live by the motto, "Be the change you want to see in the world," by Mahatma Gandhi. If I could be a light in other people's lives, this might inspire them to do the same for others. I used to live in a small island in the Philippines called Marinduque. Our high school's library was filled with donated books from America, and I experienced how powerful such a gift was for both me and my classmates. I am inspired to do the same for the children in South Africa, and hope you can join me in my journey. You can follow my facebook account for updates. Let's do this!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Here are some ways that you can help...

If you could donate a few gently used books, money to help for the shipping costs, and spread the news about my book drive, this would help greatly! You can share this website link and word of mouth also helps a lot.

June 19, 2014 -- Big thank you to Los Medanos College library for supporting the African Library Project (shout out to Tracy and Amber!) This upcoming Monday morning 6/30 I'll be setting up a children's book collection bin at LMC Library. Drop off your books if you're local and spread the news. More updates and collection sites to come.
May 26, 2014 -- Just started. I know we can make this drive a huge success!

Spread the news by sharing my page on your Facebook or Twitter account. That would really help launch my book drive!
