Sawa and Brownie Troop 4953 African Library Project

03/16/2014 to 05/15/2014
Riverdale MD

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Sawa, I am a College Student , I've partnered with Brown troop 4953.We are very interested in community service and global development. We love to do what we can to serve those who have less. This is our first book drive and we are extremely eager to see all of the good it brings. Please support!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We love to read and we go to the library all the time. Children in Sierra Leone don’t have many books or resources. We are excited to be part of starting a library to motivate children to become lifelong readers and learners.

We've witnessed how important reading can be for people -- giving them access to information that helps them in their everyday lives.

We are doing this book drive to help give young people in Sierra Leone, Africa, access to books in order to give them a chance to love reading and expand their knowledge.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

We are collecting 1000 books and $600 to ship the books to start a primary library (Preschool- 4th grade reading level) in Sierra Leone, as part of the African Library Project.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Have some well loved, well preserved books from childhood that need cleaning out? Know a library about to restock and in need of a place to donate older books? Is your son or daughter, brother, sister, or cousin a student in elementary school--they could host a book drive and I could pick up the books collected! Have your church or community group agree to be a book drop-off center! Contact Sawa and be sure to ask all your friends, families, co-workers and associates to collect all the books that they can!

Each book and monetary donation is important and added all together helps complete this project!

With the help of family, friends, and our community this book drive can be a success -- please help as you are able and share with others.
