African Library Project

Meredith Watson and Chesterbrook Academy's African Library Project

02/24/2014 to 03/31/2014
West Chester PA

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

Meredith Watson....I am a 3rd grader at Chesterbrook Academy in West Chester, Pennsylvania. We want to initiate our African Library Project to celebrate National Reading Month and bring the books we love so much to other children.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Some people have never held a book…..and we hope to change that. Our school has been exceptionally fortunate to provide access to literacy resources to our students that so many others don't have.

About our African Partners...

Our partner in Ghana is Nkwabeng Savior Primary School. This school serves about 206 students. They are very much like us....Pre-K to 4th grade!! This is very exciting knowing that we can share the books we have been enjoying at our own school with the students in Ghana. We can share some of our favorites which makes it all the more personal and special.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Requested books are for children in preschool through fourth grade. Please donate gently used...
-Baby board books
-Children’s picture books
-Children’s fiction and non-fiction
-Early readers
-BIG books
-Teacher's resource books for school libraries
-Children’s dictionaries/picture dictionaries
-Encyclopedias less than 15 years old
-Children’s encyclopedias/picture encyclopedias

Here's how you can contribute your books...

There are many places that you can drop off your gently used books.
These include:

-Chesterbrook Academy, 1190 McDermott Drive, West Chester, PA 19380
*in the lobby or in front of any classroom

-ePharmasolutions, 1 IMS Drive, Suite 200, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Shipping the books will cost around $300.00 to get the books to a central warehouse in New Orleans. An additional $300.00 must be provided to the African Library Project to cover shipping from New Orleans to Africa. If you would like to donate towards shipping, please feel free to send any amount to:

Meredith Watson, African Library Project, 1190 McDermott Drive, West Chester, PA 19380

Any donation will be greatly appreciated!!

Penny wars at Chesterbrook Academy will be ongoing to increase donations.

Thank you for your support.
