Paradise is a Library

02/04/2014 to 06/02/2014
Kingsport TN

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Lilly Anderson. I am a 15 year old avid reader and book lover. Books are my greatest passion in life. Sharing them with others makes me happier than anything! When I found the African Library Project, it sounded exactly like something I would want to get involved in! The fact that other people do not have access to books and cannot learn with them breaks my heart. The fact that I can help the people affected by this loss make me so happy. I am calling my book drive Paradise is a Library. This is taken from a quote from Jorge Luis Borges, "I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.” I am taking on this project by myself but have the support and help of my friends and family.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Reading is an important part in anyone's life, especially in mine. Books are the key to learning. It is our right as humans to be educated. Now, I have found a way to help those affected by not having this right.

About our African Partners...

Chisengeleni Primary School in Phalombe, Malawi

Please contribute these kinds of books...

I am collecting books for a community primary school library. This means two-thirds of the books I collect must be for children in preschool through 4th grade and one-third must be for children in 4th through 8th grade. This means that any book donations you have for children in preschool through 8th grade are welcome :)

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

If you would like to make a contribution please contact Lilly Anderson at acaihateyoulol@gmail.com or 1(423)-863-8642.
