Mavukufta Community Primary School African Library Project by LeAnn Baldy

02/01/2014 to 03/01/2014
Little Rock AR

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

LeAnn Baldy. I was fortunate to work with wonderful teachers and administrators at Moody Elementary in the White Hall School District and then open and operate a school-aged daycare in White Hall for seven years. I am just a person that loves children and loves to read. What a blessing to be able to share the overwhelming abundance that we have in the United States with these children in Africa. I think one of the clearest memories that I have is, while on a mission trip to Peru, seeing a whole classroom of children sharing a broken box of crayons...and they were thankful to have them. My hope is that one day no child will ever want for books or supplies.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I have profound faith in and love for children. I believe they are so smart and are only confined by the restraints placed upon them. I also have a wonderful respect for reading...for children reading. Reading is a way for anyone, no matter where they are, to travel to any location. A way to dream and imagine...a way to be anything they want to be. What a gift to be able to share with these children in Africa. I hope this is just the first of many libraries that I have the privilege to be a part of.

I am so excited about this project! I truly believe that we will go over our goal and probably have enough books to set up an additional library.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

My hope is that people donating books would also donate 50 cents per book to help with the cost of shipping. Shipping will cost around $300.00 to get the books to the warehouse in New Orleans. An additional $300.00 must be give to the African Library Project to cover shipping from New Orleans to Africa. If you would like to donate towards shipping please feel free to send any amount to: LeAnn Baldy, 7100 Westwind Dr., N. Little Rock, AR 72113. Thank you.

Here are some ways that you can help...

One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, or how much money I had in the bank. But the world will be a better place because I made a difference in the life of a child. - Author Unknown
