African Library Project

Girl Scout Troop 33205's Book Drive for Ghana

02/01/2014 to 03/29/2014
Fremont CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Girl Scout Troop 33205, a Cadette troop based out of Fremont, California.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We want to give the children of Africa an opportunity to learn and gain knowledge through reading, which will provide them with the foundation necessary to improve their lives and community.

About our African Partners...

All books and educational materials will be given to the Adiemra No. 4 D/A Elementary School in Dormaa West of the Bong Afaho Repository in Ghana. Adiemra is a rural farming community. There are very few books. As a result, parents often take their children to work on the farms. The books from this drive will give the children of Adiemra an opportunity to go to school and learn.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

- New or gently used books preschool through 6th grade reading level
- Educational materials such as puzzles, flashcards, and other educational games in good condition.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Collection dates are February 1, 2014 through March 29, 2014. Various drop-off locations are available.
- Chadbourne Elementary School Office
- Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church
Arrangements can also be made for pick up of books and materials in Fremont, Union City, and Newark. For more information, please email or go to our website at

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

All funds collected will be used to pay for shipment of the 1,000 books and materials to the African Library Project shipping headquarters in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Here are some ways that you can help...

- Donate new or gently used books (preschool to 6th grade reading level)
- Donate educational materials such as flashcards, puzzles, and learning games (in good condition)
