A Second Chance: Project Swaziland

12/07/2013 to 02/17/2014
San Jose CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Vivek Sharath. For the past several months, I have been collecting and donating books to the Salvation Army and the Goodwill. However, my actions were a mere ripple in the water because I made a difference in the community. I plan to make a splash by gathering books for those in Swaziland.

I am 16 years old and I live in San Jose, California. I will be receiving a great deal of help from the Friends of the Evergreen Branch Library. This organization will assist me in reaching the desired number of books and money needed to start a library in Swaziland.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I dream of a world where everyone, from toddlers to seniors, can enjoy the luxury of reading books. The journey of my dream becoming a reality starts here. The African Library Project is the path I will take to make a difference in someone's life, thousands of miles away. The children in Swaziland have ambitions of becoming doctors, lawyers, police officers, and so much more. I plan to assist these children with those ambitions by providing books that offer endless knowledge. This in turn will open the doors for endless possibities.

About our African Partners...

The books raised will go to Makhosini High School in Swaziland (grades 4-8). Students that attend this school are passionate in learning, and have their eyes set on several careers in the future. Books are instrumental for these students to reach their goals.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Books donated will be to a Swaziland High School.
Here is what you can donate:
-Textbooks about English, Math, Business etc.
-Novels (4th-8th grade reading level)
-Any other book from a 4th-8th grade reading level

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Donating books is simple. Bring the books to the Evergreen Branch Library in San Jose, California. 2635 Aborn Rd, San Jose, CA
A staff member will take your donations and store them in the storage room where book donations are kept.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

If you are interested in donating money to raise funds, please email me at v4lakers@gmail.com for more information. There will be book sales at the Evergreen Branch Library, and a portion of that money will go directly to fund the cost of shipping books.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Every book and every dollar counts. If you have any books you would like to donate, please bring it over. If you have any questions or concerns, email me at v4lakers@gmail.com
