African Library Project

Prairie View Elementary Library Club Book Drive

11/01/2013 to 04/11/2014
Wentzville MO

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

We are the Prairie View Hawks Library Club. Our goal is to guide and enrich a life long love of reading. To build relationships within families, friends, the community, as well as our own PVE family. To open up new worlds and ideas through reading. We want to spread the love of literacy worldwide. But it's not just Library Club making this happen. Our family here at PVE, is supporting us the whole way. With their help and donations, we are on our way to starting a library in Africa. Here we come.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

The best gift you can give a child is the opportunity to venture into new worlds. The ability to read gives a child the chance to become super heroes or sports stars, mermaids or princesses, angels, animals, grownups, or crazy creatures. We, here at Prairie View, know and appreciate what a book can do, where it can take us, and what we could possibly learn. Now we want to share this with students in Sierra Leone, Africa. We want to give them the most marvelous adventures they could ever experience.

About our African Partners...

A primary school in Sierra Leone, however will find out more in February.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are looking for books at the pre-school to 4th grade reading level, preferably paperback. Both new and gently used are much appreciated. Other books that relate to these reading levels including picture books, puzzle books, etc., are greatly appreciated as well.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

A Book Drop Donation Box can be found outside the library at Prairie View Elementary or you can contact Mrs. Pressley in the library about picking up books.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Inside the library sits a large jar, awaiting the arrival of your spare change. Our goal is 500 dollars to cover both the national and international shipping costs. The students here at Prairie View are excited and determined to fill this jar. Once the jar is full, not only can we ship our books to Sierra Leone, but Mrs. Pressley will read us a story from the ROOFTOP. Around the holidays, Library Club will also be making book page crafts to sell, which will also be placed in the jar. If interested in donating, please contact Mrs. Pressley in the library.

Here are some ways that you can help...
