Burlingame Leo's Club African Library Project - Malawi

10/03/2013 to 05/26/2014
Burlingame CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Books are vital tools in a child's literary success. We would like to support students in less fortunate areas empowering them by providing them with necessary materials for their education. By doing this project, we are not only helping the children, we are also raising awareness in our own community.

About our African Partners...

Our book donations will be going to the small country of Malawi, one of the world's least developed countries. Dominated by a rural population, its economy is based heavily on agriculture. After recently gaining independence, the country has been faced many challenges, one of which is improving education. As a Leos club, we would like to aid the improvement of children's education in Malawi.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Books from pre-school to 8th grade reading level.
These include:

-Books with universal themes
-Inspiring story books
-Life skill lesson books
-Books about Africa and African-Americans
-Children's Science or Literary Magazines
-Brain teasers and Flash cards
-Children's fiction & non-fiction

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

If you do not have any books to donate in the target age level, please consider donating towards our $500 shipping expenses.
