Hailey's African Library Project

09/27/2013 to 05/16/2014
Perrysburg OH

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Hailey. I am 10 years old and in fourth grade. I love reading and I am a gymnast. I have a 13 year old sister and a 7 year old brother. Some of my favorite things to do are read books in a hammock, play with my American Girl dolls, play with my friends, write about the books I read, and sing worship songs. I really like animals, but my favorite animal is a horse. If you came over to my house you might find me writing or doodling in my journal! And, I've been an artist ever since I was born:)

We want to start a library in Africa because...

The reason I want to build a library in Malawi, Africa is because I want other kids my age, younger and also older to be able to love reading too! The reason why I like reading is because when I read I imagine pictures in my head and I go to a different world. I want kids in Africa to imagine pictures in their heads too! I want them to have the same opportunity as me to read lots of books.

500 books $250 fundraising

I started my book drive on my 10th birthday party in September 2013. I asked my friends to bring books and donations instead of gifts to the party. We collected about 500 books and $200 dollars at the party. Thanks everyone!

We will be having a "Cocoa, Cookies, and Collecting Books" open house at our home on Friday, January 31st, 2014. Stop by between 3:45pm and 6:00pm and enjoy a warm cup of cocoa and a cookie. We will be collecting gently used books and donations of money (for shipping costs) during the open house... so don't forget to go through your bookshelves for books to donate! Hope to see you then:)
