The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

My friends & I started the Emerald of Life club to help make the world a better place. We have seven members. Our youngest member is six years old and our oldest member is ten. Our names are Emme, Elle, Isabella, Josh, Benjamin, Kirsten, and Angel.

Our first big project is for the African Library Project and after that we plan to do something to help animal shelters and work to stop puppy mills.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Our team members are avid readers. Some of us read as many as 20 books a week, and we are really lucky because we have libraries everywhere and we take books for granted. It makes us sad to know that most children in African villages don't have books. We want them to have books so they can learn to read and get jobs and learn about the world outside of their village.

About our African Partners...

Our goal is to start two libraries. One is for a primary school in Botswana; the other is for a secondary school in Lesotho.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Gently used or new books for preschool through 8th grade reading level
Educational games and puzzles
Fiction and non-fiction
Fun books and learning books
Board books
Learning-to-read books
Chapter books
Science books
Nature books
(Paperback books are cheaper to ship.)

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

It costs approximately $500 to ship the books for one library. We need to raise $1000 to ship the books for both of our libraries. Please donate by clicking the Paypal button below, or contact a team member for other ways to donate. Thank you so much for your support!

Here are some ways that you can help...

* Go through your own bookshelves and look for books that your children or grandchildren have outgrown.
* Check yard sales and Goodwill or other second-hand store for children's books.
* Visit library book sales for great deals on books.
* Shop the Half-Price Books bargain shelves for children's books marked down to $1.
